The Internal Medicine Service at Oakey Veterinary Hospital provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for all equines.
Each year we see many first opinion, referral medicine and intensive care cases.
Internal medicine includes a wide variety of conditions - from the horse with weight loss issues, to the horse with acute diarrhoea, as well as the critically ill foal. Many medical problems are life threatening and require rapid and intensive veterinary intervention to achieve a successful outcome. The Oakey Veterinary Hospital has dedicated intensive care boxes within the main barn to allow close monitoring of the critically ill patient.
A separate isolation unit also allows intensive management of animals with infectious conditions. Dedicated mare and foal boxes allow extensive monitoring, support and the treatment of sick foals without preventing important mare and foal contact.
