Alimentary disorders, especially weight loss, gastric ulceration and chronic colic are relatively common problems for horses and ponies and at Oakey Vet Hospital, we have extensive facilities for the investigation of such cases.
Oakey Vet Hospital possesses state of the art Ultrasound capable of assessing the equine abdomen and videoendoscopy that is capable of visualising the stomach and the proximal intestinal tract.
In conjunction with our surgical team, standing or midline laparoscopic assessment of the abdomen is also possible for more complicated cases. Rectal, duodenal, liver or kidney biopsy can also be performed and samples are rapidly evaluated by the laboratory to provide quick results.
