Pre-Purchase & Insurance Examinations
Buying a new horse can be a very exciting time. Unfortunately the purchase of a new horse always has an associated element of risk. In order to manage that risk, Oakey Veterinary Hospital recommends a complete evaluation prior to the purchase of any horse, from the pleasure pony to the high level performance animal.
Our experienced veterinarians perform pre-purchase examinations in accordance with Equine Veterinarians Australia guidelines. This involves a complete physical examination followed by examination of the horse at the walk, trot and canter and during turning and backing. Flexion tests are performed during the gait evaluation. Extra diagnostic tests, such as full radiographic screening, endoscopy, ultrasonographic evaluation and drug screening can also be performed on request to give a more detailed clinical impression of the horse.
If you are considering purchasing a new horse we encourage you to call and discuss a pre purchase evaluation and your requirements with one of our veterinarians.
Insurance examinations are also available by appointment to allow you to protect your investment.
