Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy
Tendon and ligament problems are common in performance horses. These injuries traditionally require a long convalescence and a guarded prognosis for return to the same level of performance. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a revolutionary new therapy for treatment of these injuries that is now available at the Oakey Veterinary Hospital.
PRP is extracted from the horses own blood and injected into the lesion within the tendon or ligament. PRP is rich in growth factors that stimulate the body's own stem cell to enhance healing. When combined with tailored training programs the technique greatly improves repair, and thus return to performance of affected horses.
