Vaccinations

Vaccinations give your pet the best opportunity for protection against some common infectious diseases. While vaccinations cannot completely stop your pet from becoming infected, they do significantly reduce the risk and severity of infections and make recovery quicker. The annual vaccination is just part of your pets annual health check up provided by the Veterinarians at Oakey Veterinary Hospital. Consultation time also gives you a chance to speak to your vet about any other issues concerning your pet's health or behavior.

Canine Vaccinations

We recommend vaccinations with a minimum coverage against the 3 main canine viral diseases including Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus (C3). These are all potentially fatal diseases for you dog.

We also recommend vaccination against the two organisms responsible for Kennel Cough; Parainfluenza virus and Bordetella Bronchiseptica(C5). The C5 vaccination is required for most boarding kennels and is also recommended if your dog mixes with large number of dogs (e.g. at obedience class).

Puppy Vaccinations

Puppies should receive an initial course of vaccinations. The 1st vaccination(C3) at 8 weeks age, the 2nd vaccination(C5) at 12 weeks , followed by a 3rd vaccination(C5) at 16 weeks old.

Annual boosters are then recommended to ensure ongoing protection.

Feline Vaccinations

We recommend cats receive a vaccination against 4 of the main feline diseases including: Feline Enteritis, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus and Chlamydia. Protection is provided by the F4 vaccination.

An additional vaccination above the minimum coverage is recommended. The additional vaccination provides immunity against another common cat disease, Feline Leukaemia Virus (F5).

Further vaccinations may be required depending on your circumstances. Please don’t hesitate to discuss this with your Vet at Oakey Veterinary Hospital.
