Urogenital Surgery

Foaling occurs uneventfully in most mares. However, occasionally foaling problems result in conditions such as cervical or rectovaginal tears, which may compromise the mares' ability to conceive and carry further pregnancies. Surgical correction of these conditions is able to be performed at the Oakey Veterinary Hospital by our experienced surgical staff in order to attempt to return affected mares back to full breeding potential.

Bladder stone formation is also common in horses (particularly older geldings) due to the high concentration of calcium carbonate in the horse's urine. While many are passed without causing a problem, they can occasionally grow very large, irritating the bladder and interfering with the horses ability to urinate. In these cases surgical removal of the stone is required. Other urinary conditions, such as bladder rupture in foals are commonly seen during the breeding season.
